Trends in Design Engineering
Every new building presents a new creative challenge. This is how we at Trimo understand planning and construction of buildings and also how we always approach our work – openly, with original thinking, and boldly. That is why we exceed current trends and make world guidelines.Steel is a material of rich, expressive options and with important technical characteristics - such as tensile strength, ability to cover great spans, fast and precise construction, flexibility and simple maintenance. Steel enables successful combinations with other materials, especially glass that can provide a special aesthetic value for business facilities.
That is why steel is being used more frequently in the world with larger representative facilities: airports, sports centres, bus and railway stations, educational facilities, business facilities, skyscrapers, car-park garages and other industrial buildings. It can be found in all the largest cities of the world.
Modern trends in steel constructions lean towards increased use of bar constructions where pipe bars prevail and the use of curvature steel and tensile diagonals are important architectural and aesthetic elements of a building. Dividing constructions, large ranges and combining steel with other materials (glass, textile), is also fashionable.
The establishment of composite constructions which can be used for a fast and financially efficient construction of several- storey buildings has also contributed to such rapid development of steel. Today the combination of steel and concrete in composite constructions helps achieve higher load-bearing capacities of composite girders, of 30 to 60 percent, in comparison with the pure steel girder. These higher capacities are due to favourable symbiosis between concrete and steel and exceptionally good fire resistance compared to pure steel constructions. This represents an important safety factor in high-rise constructions.
At Trimo we encounter projects of composite constructions mainly in foreign markets but the use of steel constructions is also increasing in Slovenia. It is successfully expanding from industrial, infrastructural and shopping facilities to areas of business, leisure and sports facilities. Today, investors value buildings having an attractive design, are functional and do not exceed a certain financial framework. Steel fulfils these expectations excellently.
